Keeping Dry Hair Moisturized

I have really dry natural hair and it is a struggle to keep it moisturize. Sadly, that's not the only thing I have to worry about; sometimes my hair break off when styling it. It can get really depressing. So if you're facing the same problems I might have a solution for you. This method has help my hair stay moisturize for longer, thus reducing breaking and my hair has gained a couple inches!
Here are steps you can follow to see these results too.

1) Moisturize DAILY

There's no going around it. If you have dry hair you must moisturize every day. This can be just spraying your hair with water. However if your hair needs some more attention for it to stay moisturize, the LOC method is perfect. The LOC method requires that you add Liquid, Oil and Cream to your hair in that order. The liquid may be water or a water based product, the oil can be whatever you chose but I prefer castor oil as it is thick and does a great job of locking the moisture in. The cream will be a styling a product that makes your hairstyle last longer and gives added moisture.

2) Wear Protective Styles

When you're hair is tucked away there is little or no stress on it. You will be retaining a lot of length because you're hair won't break underneath a wig or braids. What is important is that your hair is very moisturize (deep condition then do the LOC method) before installing your protective style. It also key that on the day that you take down your protective style you moisturize by deep conditioning and applying a hot oil treatment. This is one of the best ways to combat dry hair!

3) Try Different Hair Products

It can be that the product that you are using is not working for your hair. Don't be afraid afraid to try something new. Not because your favourite product use to make your hair moisturized and soft means it will always work that way. As you get older and manipulate your hair in different ways it will respond differently to certain products. A product that didn't work for your hair once may very well work now.

4) Deep Condition Weekly

Deep conditioning is a major key to moisturizing dry hair. Most of the hair's moisture is stripped during washing and conditioning is not enough for us ladies with dry hair. Deep conditioning with heat (whether direct-sitting under a dryer or indirect- using a plastic cap) allows the moisture to penetrate your hair shaft. This keeps your hair moisturized for longer and prevents breakage.

If you try at least two of these tips you are sure to see a difference in your hair.

The Natural Hair Movement: Why I Decided to Join

Recently I chopped all my relaxed hair off so I could go natural. I had many reasons why I did it. Firstly, I got fed up with the state of my hair. I had in Jheri curls and those of you who have had Jheri curls knows how long and tedious the process is and to add to that my hairdresser always cut my hair each visit. This led to my hair not growing as it stayed at shoulder length. I decided not to go to that hairdresser again. While looking for hairstyles for my short hair I realised that more could be done with short natural hair. These naturalistas looked beautiful showcasing their hair and giving tutorials. After a while I started watching natural hair videos more frequently. Eventually I decided to try this 'Natural Hair Journey' out. So far it's not a bad experience, my main issue is with moisturizing my hair. Hopefully this problem will be solved quickly, otherwise, I love my natural hair.

Natural hair is not necessarily cheaper than relaxed hair as you have to buy products that will keep you on a healthy natural journey. At first it may be expensive as you are testing different products in your hair to see what works for your type of hair.

Benefits Of Having Natural Hair

  • HAIR IS IN ITS MOST OPTIMAL CONDITION
  • MOISTURE CONTENT IS HIGHER
  • TEXTURE IS STRONGER
  • DENSITY AND FULLNESS ARE AT THEIR BEST
  • ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES TO EXPLORING HAIR COLOR
  • PROTEIN BONDS ARE KEPT IN TACT
  • HAIR HAS FULLNESS AND BODY
  • HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE
  • HAIR WILL EXPERIENCE MORE GROWTH
Eventually you will develop a love for your natural hair and natural well being that's so deep it will make you wonder why you didn't try it earlier.

So why not join the natural hair movement? You don't have to big chop like me there's another alternative which is transitioning, this way you are able to keep your length. I am only 2 1/2 weeks natural and already in love with the texture and manageability of my hair and I know it will just get better. It wouldn't hurt for you to give your natural hair a chance!

Finding the Best Hairstyle for You

A woman's hair is her crowning glory. It frames her face and completes her appearance. Most women cut their hair to different styles in an attempt to enhance their looks. Some like their hair long and straight, while others like to wear their hair long and with abundant curls and ringlets. There are others who go for the minimum, no-fuss look and always have their hair cut short and simple.
There are many, many types of hairstyles out there, but not all will look good on you unless the hairstyle fits the shape of your face. Below are the different hairstyles that are considered most flattering for each shape of face.

An oval face
The oval face is the perfect face. Almost any hairstyle will go with it, whether it is long or short, straight or curly. If you have an oval face, you will do well with having layers near your chin or cheekbones to draw attention to them. However, try to avoid hairstyles that add volumes to the top of your head  it will make your face look longer.
A long face
If you have a long or oblong face, you should create the illusion of width to balance it out. You can add width to your face by doing your hair with long, side-swept bangs or chin-length bobs. You will also do well with curls and waves that frame the face.
If you have a long or oblong face, you should avoid letting your hair grow extremely long or having your hair cut extremely short. Such extreme hairstyles will take the width from your face and emphasize its length.
A round face
If people with long faces need to add width to their faces, people with round faces need to take some of the width and bulk off by adding length. If your face is round you need to create the illusion of length, and to do this, you can have your hair cut just below your chin, or in graduated layers. Do not do your hair in short, one-length, blunt cuts, as it will only draw attention to the roundness of your face.
A square face
Having a square face means having an angular jaw. The hairstyle trick with having a square face is drawing attention away from that jaw. This is done by putting texture to your hair. Short curls do exactly this, as well as long layers that start just below the jawline. If your face has a square shape, you should try not to have your hair cut in one-length bobs or wear bangs that are cut bluntly. It will only emphasize the squareness of your face.
A heart-shaped face
Heart-shaped faces are pretty Valentines, but the pointed chin draws attention away from the eyes. If you have a heart-shaped face, you could bring focus to your eyes by wearing side-swept bangs, a fringe on your brow or long layers at the top. Or you could let your hair grow and have it done with layers that touch your cheekbones.

Black Girls' Hair Care

Caring For Your  Hair

Step 1

Cut down on shampoo. Wash your hair with conditioner not shampoo if you have dry hair.

Step 2

Treat your hair every month with protein products or use an egg in your hair.

Step 3

In case you didn't know black hair has the finest strands! A huge misconception is that black hair is coarse, coarse means the "strand size" not the texture. Black hair is rarely coarse, black strands' are finer than any other group - which is why is can not take heavy handling. Hold your hair up to the light, is is thin, can you see through it, if yes - you have fine hair. This means your hair needs extensive care.

Step 4

Use organic products in your hair olive oil is also good.

Step 5

Your hair needs moisture but stay away from petroleum it is grease and causes your hair to become dry. Moisturizing prevents split ends.

Step 6

Try cutting down on heating equipment. Use them no more than 2-3 times per month.

Step 7

Use a wide tooth comb to comb your hair, stop buying bristle brushes or thin combs which will catch in your hair and snap it off. go for low maintenance. People of color should never comb their hair everyday, your hair does not need to be combed everyday, just detangle with your fingers. Excessive combing will break your hair off. Make sure your hair is slightly damp before you tangle.

Your hair will be healthier if you follow these rules and you will notice a difference in the strength and length.
